01 Grand AM GT , performance help

Hey i have an automatic 2001 Grand am GT. I want to start to get the most bang for your buck performance parts but i dont really know much about cars...

I was thinking to get new exaust. I was looking at the Borla but i dont know if thats the one I want. I was also looking at the Doctor Speed Stage 3 Cold air intake (Doctor Speed - Grand Am Cold Air Intake) and i dont know anything really about this but i saw this SLR Motorsports performance chip (PONTIAC GRAND AM 1990-2005) and it seems too good to be true. 50+ hp and tq for 69 dollars. Do you need other mods to have the chip or does it mess up your engine to make it work too hard?

Someone please help me on what I should get for my car to get the most hp out of it. thanks

Re: 01 Grand AM GT , performance help

Hi there. Welcome to the forum.

First I'd like to say that the SLR Motorsport chip is complete and total Horse Crap. Don't waste your money on it. Please. It's just a relay that's hooked in to the air intake sensor, and sends a static input to the ECU, it's not healthy for the engine. It doesn't make your car more fuel efferent. It doesn't increase HP.

Second, the Borla Exhaust sounds awesome, and does free up some HP.

The Doctor Speed intake is also a quality setup.

Beyond these you'll be looking for a underdrive crank pulley. And that's about it in terms of real performance you can do to the car before dropping a real load on a supercharger.
Check these out Under the Hood - 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am Accessories Store - PFYC

Upgrading the Front and rear sway bars will help the car corner better without sacrificing the ride quality, like lowering springs do.

Edit : Also, here's some information on the tuning companys available to tune your car ClubGP Message Forum troubleshooting
