4T60E in both 2.4 and 3100?
^^^^^^^^^^
Is this a 100% positive fact? the 2.4 auto tranny from a 96-98 ga will bolt directly up to a 3100? I need to know for sure because my tranny is shitting on me...and I'm gonna get a new one before it totally goes out and before boost...i know they are both the 4T60E but are there any fitment issues? Thanks
Dan

I heard the 4t60 was special for the 2.4, but then I also heard that it was in all automatic 96-98 N bodies. So someone needs to clarify this for me as well.

In another thread i think it was fatmatt or canada or someone who confirmed it was the same....when i search on car-parts.com for 3.1AT or 2.4AT they both bring up a 4t60e w/ gry plug...i dunno what gry plug means but it brings up the same results...

Honestly i don't know if they bolt right up... there ARE some differences. The transmission internals are the same, but from there i don't know. You might have different axles/diff and what not... i know the final drive is different in the 2.4 4t60e and the 3.1 4t60e. Theoretically, i don't see why it can't be done. Even if the flex plate is different, I'm sure you can use the torque converter from a 3.1 4t60e (I'm pretty sure the torque converters are different, because twinnie and 3100 auto stall speeds are different) Bellhousing bolts should be the same. In fact, if you get all the right parts with that twinnie 4t60, you will have smaller gearing which might help you out a bit performance-wise.

The Gray Plug I assume means the Harness Connector. They're probably not compatable... The pin readouts are probably different...

The axle ratio is 3.29 on both, but the 3100 version has a chain/sproket set that gears it out to 2.93.........
That's in addition to the TC and flexplate differences.
I wonder if the bellhousing is the same?

I don't think so... I've seen plenty of pics of the L4 compaired to the V6 and there totally different.

isnt that 4 cyl picture that of a 4t40?
there's no reason the bell housing would be different, or it'd be a different model transmission.

Not really........the model of transmission mostly refers to how the internals are built.

so they can build an entirely different housing and still call it the same transmission? Huh.

I was just pointing out the differences in the bolt pattern. And yes that is a 4T45-E.
