83 malibu......

ok i got a 83 malibu wagon on trade the other day, but i have come into a problem with it....

heres the dirt on the car,

started out as a v6, motor had been changed out for a 283.

i can jump the car and it will start fine. i can charge the battery and it will start 2-3 times fine after that it wont even attempt to start... but all my lights work fine.
my battery is a duralast 800cca and 1000ca. it was just replaced 3 days ago.

my altenator was tested good, but im not sure now. any ideas on what else could be causing my eletrical issue?

A bad starter? Does it turn over when you try and start it? If so then go step by step, check if you have spark, then gas. And go from there.

Re: 83 malibu......

Interesting. With these older cars it shouldnt be hard to figure out. Spark, fuel, and air. Is it getting all that? Does it stay running when you jump it? Do you give it any gas when you try and start it?

Sounds like your saying it doesnt even bother to crank over after those few times. Maybe there is something wrong with the starter. A short or something. But if it cranks and cranks, then the starter is fine.
