cobalt ss would be the best competitor for that class... get one of those. or an ion redline, which are hot as hell.

My GA currently has 152,000 miles on it. Its not running that bad but it just seems like something is always going bad on it. When I get another car I probably will keep the GA because I've put so much damn money into it to keep it on the road. Last year I even had to rebuild the transmission as that went on me, cost me a pretty penny but at the time I had no other options really. Its a 2.4 motor. Im takin a look at the SS and it really doesnt compare to the Civic si or the GTI, why cant gm make cars that can compete in this class, I cant afford to buy a GTO after all.

how doesn't it compare to the civic si or gti? comparable power, comparable weights, comparable gas mileage...
doesn't compete? it out performed cars above it's class.
http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-200...ttack-SEMA.htm
granted, nowhere near stock on that cobalt, but you think any of the other cars were?
edmunds
hopefully that link works... went to edmunds, and compared the cobalt ss, civic si, and gti 2.0t
cobalt's cheapest. cobalt's the only one that can tow. they all get 23mpg city, and 29-32 highway (cobalt being the lowest). cobalt's 400 pounds lighter than the gti, and 100 heavier than the civic. cobalt has the best turning radius. they're sharing random stats in the interior room categories.
just do some comparing. the cobalt's not a bad choice, but to each their own. they have most of the same options, so it's a moot point.
plus, the others don't have onStar, hah!

I found some info, it seems like the Cabolt SS and the Ion Redline are very much competitive with those other cars. Maybe I will keep it in the family.

Ok i had to sign up when i saw this thread. First off you are correct in the cobalt SS doesn't compete with cars like the GTI 2.0T and the civi SI, it outruns them. The GTI is a very nice car but performance wise its in the high 6 second 0-60 range with the SI. The SS in 6 flat. It has also been noted that the SS is underrated and many people are getting around 215 WHP and 200Wtq. Both the GTI and SS will be able to be modded easily so its more of a brand selection. My SS recently put down 256WHP corrected and 214 uncorrected. I live at 7000' so i lose a bit of power. At sea level i would expect to see between 270-280 since i would be getting an adittional 5-6 PSI but i would also need a few more mods for it to work like injectors.
You can get a $500 kit that gets you 270Whp or somewhere in that range not including bolt-ons which would add a good amount more. If you have any questions just ask i can probably get the answer for you.

If you really want a GTO you can buy a used one for the price of a new car prices your looking at. I am thinking about getting one and the best one I have found used was an 05 for $22,000. I would buy it but I still have to wait a while more till I can afford it.

Re: Buying a new car
wow i forgot about this forum, i used to love my GA. Anyways I just junked it and got a 2007 Jeep Patriot. So much for having a fast car. I almost got a used GTO or a Caddy CTS, but i ended up going with the new car for warranty and reliability reasons. I do miss the old GA though.
