Test drive the SS cobalt

So I went out and wanted to test the HHR and Cobalt SS all they had was the Cobalt SS. Overall a great car an impressive upgrade to the standard cobalt and deff a import fighter with the power.
Here are the good things:
--Overall power on the motor is serious! once it gets going the power just keeps coming.
--Handling, with the suspension upgrades and the new magnetic ride, man does it handle for a FWD car! The car is responsive and ride quality was seriously better than my GTO. The car felt light and nimble but not loose. It loves to dive into the corners and just takes you threw it smoothly
-- the brakes are awesome for a little car, 4 piston/2 piston with huge disk all around stopped the little car great, with this and a the nice tire wheel combo they had only added to the handling.
--Launch control is cool and fun but I messed it up a few times, lol. You set it, push the clutch in, give it all the gas and evenly let the clutch out and it just take control for you, pretty friken cool. (first car ever driven with launch control)
--The interior is an upgrade with the seats that are snug and the shifter that just rips threw the gears.
-- Price for 20k-23k depending on incentives and all the other poo its a steal.

Here are the bad things:
--TURBO LAG! as i said once it gets going its awesome but it takes to long to spool, a boost controller can help but only so much.
--The huge ugly A pillar box gauge. On chevy's website its just a boost gauge on the car its this huge multi-tool LCD controller, its cool but so huge! On my GTO i had the controller that looked like a electronic gauge. It looks like a old school Magellan GPS, same color too!
--The interior overall aesthetics are still are poor for this car, they made it look nicer but the dash and doors still look cheap.
-- The steering at low speeds is a bit logy. Just not quit as responsive as the higher speed (which is great) which I guess you would get used to but I did not like it.
--Upon launch the torque steer is still there. Not as bad as on other cars but ya got to fight threw it once the turbo kicks in or when you use launch control. I guess this can be expected on any FWD car.
--The exterior looks are alright, kinda like if you had a couple of drinks and it looks good, I mean the car sounds better than it looks. It just look plain jane. come on gm make something awsome looking. You have the powertrane, the handling is coming along, just make it look so awesome i have to buy it!

Overall for a FWD with 260/260 turbo its a great little car for 20k-23k. Has some cool gizmos to make it work and I think it does its purpose.

Re: Test drive the SS cobalt

Not bad but putting SS badging on a Cobalt...yuck!

Not my thing but an alternative if you want a peppy car and some performance I guess.

13.8 in the quarter stock is pretty darn peppy. these things will out handle most cars on the road, too. don't underestimate the new cobalt SS. it's worthy of the SS badge, even though its a compact FWD car.

I was a fan of the SC/SS Cobalts until too many chodes started popping up in my area driving them. For the price, you really can't go wrong, but I see them turning into a car that will be driven by 99% douchebags, much like the SRT4 Neons. In the Right hands They will definately be awesome cars.

Its too Bad the Dealerships don't have certain criteria for potential purchases of cars like these.....

Re: Test drive the SS cobalt

Good review.
I'd like to take one of these for a spin. The turbo lag shouldn't be too bad (at least not as bad as my 05 WRX (full boost at 3500rpm).

Here's another review In the Autobog Garage: 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS Turbo - Autoblog
here it is going round the 'ring VIDEO: 2008 Chevy Cobalt SS Turbo runs the ring - Autoblog

i definitely hear you. it's the same with any cheap performance car that is popular in the public eye. srt-4's, civics, and mustangs all suffer from d-bag-itis. kind of why i won't own one, because i don't want to be classified in the boy-racer category.
