2001 Chevrolet Lumina Passkey II

Posted this here because I don't see another relevant forum. My lumina is giving me problems with this stupid security system. Instead of replacing the lock cylinder I just want to bypass the system. I know I need to put a resistor that matches the pellet in the key inline between two wires. I'm just not sure what two wires they are. Any help?

IF your local GM dealer parts counter is worth a crap, ask them to see the VAT box, and a passkey lock cylinder with the wires (from that year/type vehicle) and you can get a good idea between that and the schematic. My dealer parts department is extremely helpful and is showing me the same system for an engine/electronics swap I'm in the middle of.

The lock cylinder has only two wires coming out of it that plug into the VAT box, I would assume that you need to put the resistor in-line between the two that come out of that female connector on the side of the VAT.

You got it bro. I went to the dealership with the hush panel off and they showed me the exact wires. Thanks for the help.

Works great. Very simple to do. Just find the two white wires covered by an orange insulator(at least in my application). Cut those two and solder a resistor equal to the key inline. No more security light.

My opinion is you should have started a new thread with that as the topic. People that know the answer to your question may not look here at this thread.

Stop jumping on other peoples threads with your own subject. You need to start your own or people with get pissed.

Thanks. I'll have to remember that when my wife's car begins acting up again. Sometimes the security light stays on if the key is not pushed ALL THE WAY in just right. Anyone know how much the PASSKEY keys cost to have duplicated? I was guessing ballpark cost of $25-$40 per key if you have a working original? Or am I way off?

The key hardly ever fails. It's usually the ignition. You can give it a shot but don't be too hopeful.
