fliters (aka "Bass blockers")

This is for my home stereo. The sub I'm using is quite the piecer and it's basically like a big speaker, not a subwoofer. It puts out all kinds of frequencies. What I want to do is put a capacitor-style filter in there to cut out the high and mid range crap, and just have the bass, LIKE A SUBWOOFER SHOULD!

I might add that this subwoofer is VERY old, probably at least 8 years, but still sounds great and looks like it was new.

I want to know how to calculate how many micro-farads I need (the subs max power is 225 watts, and carries a max of 90 RMS), and what I should probably cut it off at. The real speakers that run with it are Sony Xplod XS-R1610, I dunno their cut-off frequency...

But anyways, I also need to know if this would be simple to build, if I could do it myself, or with my dad's help (he's been an electrician for like 25 years...)

If you need any more info about anything, I'll be happy to throw it in.

Thanks for any help :)

It's not actually a loudspeaker, it's just a "not of quality" subwoofer. When I just have it, it plays the mid freqs and probably some highs, but they're really grainy. I want to cut that out though. Sorry about the confusion.

You need a coil for a lowpass filter

http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/crosscalc.asp input your woofer's impedence and your desired frequency cutoff point and it will tell you what you need.
