Seriously though, whenever I find a solution to my own problem, I always post it. Just so anybody doing a search in the future can learn from your experience. Then again, nobody searches anyway, so maybe that's a moot point. |

There's very few 97-03 GP owners on this board, but if any of them are interested or for future ones......
The front speakers are 5 1/4", to get to them just pry open the front door panels and the speaker unbolts with a 1/4" socket. The red and black wires are for the tweeter in the upper door (if equipped) so just cut those from the stock speaker and the colored wires just unclip from the back of the speaker harness. I decided to cut off the harness and decided to sodder the speaker wires to there. I also piggybacked on the wires for the tweeters. The door panels just snap back into place. I left on the stock speaker grills. For the rear speakers the whole rear seat and the rear deck have to be pulled out much like the Grand Am. Under the seat bottom there are two rings where the bolts would be on the Grand am, just pull those and the seat bottom should just come out. For the seat back there are four bolts holding it on. The two big ones in the middle can be taken out with a socket driver and a 13mm socket. There are two smaller bolts on the ends of the seatback on the bottom. They are about an 8mm, but you will need a wrench or pliers if you don't have a deep 8mm socket. The seat back should just lift up and out. At the rear deck there are two black plastic clips holding that in place. It took awhile, but I was able to pry them out. Now the rear deck should just lift up and out and then you can unbolt and wire the speakers. The 6x9 speakers go in vertically so I reccomend if your getting tri-axial speakers to get ones with a swivel tweeter for best sound. Putting everything back should be self explanitory. The seatback can be a bit of a bitch to put back cause it so big and everything thing needs to be lighned up. For the seat bottom just lighn it up and it should snap back into place in the front. note: this is for installation of speakers on the standard sound system, the bose or monsoon systems may be different.

Now this thread is officially useful. I've got Infinity Reference 6x9s in the GA. Probably a moot point, since there's no headunit in that car right now. But when they were hooked up, they provided distortion-free rear fill and served their purpose.
Enjoy your new speakers. :)

Thanks, I will. I just got infinity reference 5 1/4's up front and my rear speakers are the polk audio gxr 6x9's from the GA. The infinity's sound really nice the stock h/u. There is something wrong with one of the polk speakers though, one sounds good and the other sounds like a stock delco speaker :( so if you decide to sell the infinity 6x9's please let me know.
