Yeah it would be much cooler to have a mini computer in the trunk with a wireless keyboard and mouse (like a gyromouse) with a huge amount of music / video stored on it, and an autotap (to monitor all the car's diagnostics) and an LCD monitor molded in the dash... THAT is the way to do it.

my plans are to use a via epia mini-itx board suped up built into a removable cube-like case that fits right into my center console. take it out whenever i want, and while i ride i have an array of movies, music, games, engine management, etc. etc. i'm so fucking tired of all the cds floating around in the car. besides my car isn't a very likely target for thieves. its ugly.

I've talked to a few people that have done a computer in there car. 1 had shoved the motherboard and all the other components into his glove box. The other just put a mini tower in his trunk and ran all the cables up to the front( obviously hid them) to a lcd monitor and keyboard with a touchpad mouse in the center console.
Another idea to use your laptop would be for GPS if you traveled a lot |

if you really want to integrate that in your car... you could build a stand in front of the passenger seat on/near the dash (plexiglass might be cool) and have it sit there. if you dont plan on using the laptop for any car/engine information, i would consider leaving the laptop at home. might create a bunch of negative remarks at shows (similar to some remarks in this thread). people used to the word "rice" but i think it would probably show someone's stupidity if its just there for no apparent reason.... AND if it's just sitting there for no reason, someone might walk off with it. theres many people who's put a computer in their car... my favorite install was someone built a computer in an amp case. looks awesome, and works extremely well. he built a shelf for in the trunk and had it made to be easily removable for track days. btw, he uses his computer as a media center (audio and video)... has other programs on it too, some "engine info" type stuff too. -derek Last edited by balludc; 12-21-2004 at 02:20 AM. |
