3400 intake for my 3100

hey just signed up and just bought a 95 regal with the 3100 engine. lookin to boost the power a lil and im gonna get a custom air intake and been lookin at intake manifolds and heads. see a lot of places port and polish stock 3100 intakes, but also read that i can use newer 3400 stock manifolds for there larger bores for a good increase aswell. i would like to go with stock 3400 parts instead of havin mine ported. came across a lower 3400 manifold from a 2000 aztek and he said it will work on the older 3100's with a set of 3400 heads and upper manifold. just wandering if the lower 3400 manifold would work with my stock 3100 heads. im gonan find an upper 3400 00+ manifold to match the bottom if i do pick up the lower one for sale. just wanted to know if i had to change my heads to make these fit. thnx

2000+ 3100 intake manifolds are the same size as the 2000+ 3400 manifolds. I used the newer style 3100 manifolds on my 98 when I had it. I also used a 2000 3400 throttle body. Its, for the most part, a direct replacement. But you do have to tap the lower intake manifold in order to thread on the heatercore line thing. Just check out my pics here:

ok thnx for the pics, so i can either get 2000+ 3100 or 3400 manifolds to work on mine. and pic up a 2000+ tb cuz there 56mm ova my 52mm correct? and im assuming i can still use my stock heads.

u didnt change ur heads right just painted ur valve covers as shown in the pics? so for the most part the hardest thing would be tappin for the heater core? not sure exactly wat i was lookin at when i was lookin for the heater core thing on the lower intake. ive done manifolds b4 just not on this engine but i guess ill find out when i tear the top end off. so i plan on doin the lower and upper intake manifolds and a throttle body, is that pretty much wat u did in those pics, cuz if so, im gonna use em as a guide when i get all the parts.

it is an excellent time to change your lower intake gaskets as well as uppers and tb gasket since it will eventually probably give you a few issues if it hasnt recently been done

Thats exactly what I did in the pics. If you look at a pre 00 3100 lower intake manifold you will see the fitting I am talking about... it threads into place right behind where the thermostat is. On the newer manifolds there is no thread as the pipe is supposed to just press into place there. So I bought a 1/2" NPT tap (90% sure thats what it was) and tapped that hole so I could thread on the nipple thing from the 3100 manifold.

Hope that helps a lil more...
-Bob

since you have a 95, you might have stamped rockers, they will interfere with the 00+ 3x00 LIM, you can clearance the LIM ad make it work but if you do have the stamped rockers it's probably a better idea to upgrade the heads too. That way you get a bigger exhaust valve, roller fulcrum rockers and the better intake manifolds.
If you already have the roller rockers then it is just a bolt on.
