achieva kept dying, only ran on jumper cables

Well I am posting this to help everyone else if they run into this problem.

I bought my achieva with a couple issues. First and foremost it wasn't running cause the battery was dead. (hey I got it for a REALLY good deal), Anyway turned out the battery was fine it was the alternator that was deader than a doornail. So I bought a new Alternator from Motor City Reman off thier ebay store, has a lifetime warranty and was a 160 amp rather than the 105 Olds put in.
Alt came in but had slight fitting issue, turned out the back bolt, kinda like a brace I guess, would not fit cause it went just over 1/8 " too far. So I put the alt on a vice and took a large drill bit and shaved it down to make it fit. Works like a champ.
Now here is something to think about if you do put the higher amp alt in, you need to change the wires on the car. There is a small 10 or 12 guage wire going from the alt to the starter, I replaced mine with a 4 guage starter to switch battery wire. I then put 2 guage wires on the battery. (4 was all that was called for but since I was doing it anyway prepare for my future stereo mod now lol). But that will more than take care of this cars needs. My next issue was the rough idle but I will write a seperate post for that one.
