Anything I should know before the big swap week?
Just curious, if anyone has any advice. Got a 2002 Grand Am 3400 w/ 40,000 miles for $500 bucks, she's going in next week. Just wondering if I should know anything major before I tackle it, and I already printed the swap manual from www.3400swap.com.

korbendallas is the one from 3400swap.com, he said it's not needed, but i've been getting mixed opinions about it, so if you have some insight please let me know :)

Not needed... its basically the same as swapping the manifolds over... thats where the different sensors are. You use the 3100 fuel rail and the timing cover I believe because the belt is routed differently on a newer 3400... I THINK... it shouldnt be too bad. Just EXPECT problems... I've found that if you go into it sayin something will go wrong, things go a LOT better.

you dont need to swap the timing cover. there is just one small notch on the 3400 cover that needs to be grinded off. then it will look exactly like the one on the 3100 in your car. i forget where the notch is exactly but it should be in the swap manual.

The notch is from the extra dummy pullies on the 3400 timing cover. I found this out when doing my swp. Just remove the pullies and use a die grinder/cutting wheel to cut the brass piece coming out. You only need to cut it off so that the 3100 motor mount bracket will fit.
Whatever you do, do NOT go to a 99+ PCM. Its setup for the 4T45E/40E, plus differant sensors, ABS and more. Stick with yours. It will run just fine without any tuning. If you get into modding the 3400, contact DHP for a tune. You CANNOT get a tune sent to you also, due to the motor swap flowing differant numbers. You will need to hop on the dyno and get some tuning on there with a wideband.

It'll run fine, just not at it's full potential. There's several 94-95 GA's that did the 3400 swap that are running good and they don't have the option of PCM tweaking.

Actually, it will fun at almost full potential without a tune. The 94/95 guys have it hard and couldnt get any tuning, and they were SD on top of that.

Also, you could go without a tune forever. You dont need it unless you throw a blower on there, which is what I meant by modding it.
