Motor Blown-Now w/Finished Motor Pics

I took the truck out TH and heard a loud ticking and clattering under the hood.Took it to my buddie`s shop .FR morning I get the call that a valve spring broke and caused the valve to fall into the #4 cylinder.Won`t know the extent of the damage until the motor comes out and the engine shop looks at it.Total rebuild time.There is 10 k I didn`t want to spend this month.

Well,heard from the builder today.He has rounded up the parts needed for the rebuild.

Diamond Pistons,rings,wrist pins ,retainers -Custom made 2-5 weeks for delivery.

PSI valve springs
K1 rods
Cloyes timing chain
new lifters
Manley valves
Harland Sharp rockers
Federal Mogul bearings
Check oil pump.replace if needed.

All machine work.Pick up and delivery of new engine.

They picked it up this morning.

I thought I would update you on the engine build.A week ago Monday the pistons were ordered.Have to be custom made and they said 3 weeks.All the other parts are in.

Here is a breakdown(no pun intended)on the heads I had on the truck and am reusing:

I have the Stage III package:


· Competition ‘CNC’ valve job on intake and exhaust valve seats
· ‘CNC’ porting for maximum airflow and port velocity
· New bronze guides in intake & exhaust, honed for desired clearance
· Replace production intake & exhaust seats with oversize ductile iron seats
· Combustion chamber reshaped for improved flow and combustion efficiency
· Milled deck surface 0.030” to obtain a 75cc chamber volume (9.6:1 to 9.85:1)
· Milled intake face 0.030”
· J.M. stainless 2.04 intake valves
· J.M. Stainless 1.60 exhaust valves
· J.M. Spring and Titanium Retainer package
· J.M. Valve Spring Locators
· New Viper keepers
· New Viper seals J.M.

I got a calll from the builder today.The pistons are in and they are starting the machine work on the block the end of the week Assembly of the motor the end of next week.

Got a call from the builder today and the motor is finished.:wow:

They are crating it up tomorrow and I should have it TU or WE. Should have it installed by late in the week.

I scheduled my tuning session with Joe @ PBJ Performance in St.Louis for NOV 25th.

Forgot to post the pics from the build.

I had some additional porting /smoothing of the heads done.The builder thought he could smooth out the airflow and help the flow a little better.

Motor will arrive TU morning first thing.

Went out to BES Racing today to pay for the motor.

Got some build sheets and paperwork on the cam specs etc.I had forgotten the specs on the cam I had in there.It is a custom grind Comp Cams 237/239 114 LSA and a .595 lift.

The motor was crated up and waiting on the truck to pick it up.It will be at the shop before 10:00 in the morning.

Talked to them about the break in procedure.They used Pennzoil Diesel oil, 15W 40 for the fill and we need to finish the fill when installing the motor.All I could find was Mobil 1 conventional 15W40 Diesel oil which they said would be fine.Supposedly has more zinc and other additives for break in.I should run that for 500 miles and switch to my Amsoil Dominator Racing Oil synthetic 10W 30.

Got my plugs ,wires ,sleeves ,billet separators and Water Wetter down to the shop today.
