Need help with tach install

Anyone out there know where to hook the tach signal wire to? I have a 1997 S-10 Standard with the 4.3L v6.My engine has and Enhanced Distributer Ignition (EDI) and the overly simplified directions that cam with the tach say to hook it to the coil negative (-) or to a wire to the tach terminal, but my friends uncle and i searched under the distributer cap for some sort of plug in and we also took out the gauge clusters and found nothing of any help. I have a summit tach. Please help!!!!!!!!!!
