One Soldier to another.... there's no real magic bullet. The usual things like being sure you have a clean air filter, good plugs and the right amount of oil as well as correct air pressure in the tires and as little added weight inside the vehicle as possible, will help you get the most out of your gas money.
Power commanders, chips or any other kind of engine tuning may claim to make more horsepower while also improving fuel economy but that doesn't mean the gains will be significant or that MPG will come up noticably. Basically it's usually either one or the other.
I saw you posted this in the summer of 08 but I wanted to answer it now anyway despite the delay. A rule I like to generalize with is automakers like to make vehicles quiet and comfortable, but quiet isn't condusive to performance, so, once you get rid of the quiet intake and exhaust for something that actually flows you will get a little more performance from most engines at the cost of more noise which is sometimes more annoying than others.
