Surging throttle?

Hey guys, since my car has been out of commission (lol) for the last week, I've been drivin my girls sunfire a little more. Sometimes, when you come up to a stoplight or sign or whatever, push the clutch and brake in, and the throttle goes up to 1500 and down to like 700 back and forth. It goes away if you give it some gas, but wtf is going on with it? She said it actually stalled out a couple of times too. Hopefully its somethn simple.

Thanks!
-Bob

I'm not sure what to say about that, but I do have one question for you, and anyone else with a standard transmission. When you hold the clutch in, do you guys feel a vibration in it? Or is it just mine, even though I had the thing replaced to be on the safe side. It still has a small vibration in it which a lot of other vehicles don't.

I'll check on that this weekend... when I drive it again. Do you just mean like a vibration in the pedal or the whole car? I know the whole car doesn't vibrate (well, it does cuz of exhaust) but maybe the pedal does. I'll check it out.

It is probably the Idle Air Control valve.

Where is that located... and would it need to be replaced or something?

It is located on the throttle body. I am not sure of the test procedures for the Cavi, as far as resistance check and so on.

If I remember correctly, it's not too much money. If you know someone locally with the same engine, just "borrow" theirs for testing if they'll let you. That's what I did. :D

try checking your vaccum lines as well. My FPR vaccum line came loose once, and it did that.

Well it doesn't happen all the time, just every now and then, so maybe its just a loose connection somewhere... at least I hope.
