swap ?'s
I currently have a 1995 Chevy Beretta Z26 w/3100 in it and a 1989 Chevy Beretta GT 5spd w/2.8L in it. I pretty much want to just swap the 3100 for the 3400 as it seems very easy and feesible. The one major question I got before I go in-depth to other questions is.... when I go looking for a 3400 to swap in, would it be best to get a VERY low-mile (under 1,000 miles) engine for under $1,500 and just drop that in or should I look for one with reasonable mile (under 50,000 miles) for considerably less $$$($400-$600) and then do a tear-down/rebuild with some goodies added? I added the 89 Beretta for the very same fact but I doubt that I am going to find a very low-mile 3.1L with in that year range. I got the original 2.8L that was in the car with 195,000 & change miles but then lost oil pressure. I picked up a used motor and dropped that in for now with hopes of rebuilding the original 2.8L as there wasn't too much harm done when it lost oil pressure. It didn't seize or blow up so I would assume that it could be rebuilt without too much hassle or cost. LMK what you guys think about this and I am going to do more research.

sounds pretty wild man.... I am not planning on going that far though. Maybe just some bolt-on parts here and there cuz I don't wanna get into haveing the ECU/PCM reprogrammed or tuned to all of the stuff that I have put into it.

Please read OP...
Depending upon which way I would go... I would also prolly like to know which mods/parts would be the best bang for the buck. I don't wanna go out and spend ridiculous amounts of money on stuff that will prolly do next to nothing. Thanks for the input

exactly why i planned for like 2-3 months and aquired parts slowly then when the block got back from the machine shop on monday I had it built by tuesday at 5 (working 4 hrs each day) and started pulling that night and installed it next day... drove to work with it thursday. I had a very smooth install.
Main parts needed will be a 3400, mine was 60k and i rebuilt it fresh, new pistons and all, 30 over. I used a 1999 venture timing cover so it would work with my belt routing and accessories, Used a 1999 upper plenum so I could use the EGR adapter I designed on 60degreev6.com, and used 1999 injectors from the other 3400 donor i had since they are the same as the 3100 ones just larger lb per hour rating. I adapted the temp wiring by using a 1999 injector harness which added the 3 pin sensor by the thermo since the 2001 heads i had didn't have a head sensor... and everything else, lower intake, heads, cam, block, crank, rods, were all from the 2001 3400 I bought. I used all my accessories, and mounting brackets, alternator bracket, and other misc stuff... its a simple install because the mounting for the 3100 and 3400 are the same, where as putting it in a 3.1 car would be a little more work. Any other questions let me know, sorry for the delay on the answer, I don't check this board often since its new to me... I almost forgot about it.

should I be looking for a 3400 out of a particular make/model or are they all pretty much the same? One would assume that they might make them with slight variences due to being in other vehicles (i.e. Chevy Venture vs. Pontiac Grand Am). I have also joined up at 60degreev6.com and am reading thru a ton of stuff there about all of this swap stuff. Basically what I am looking to do is either just drop in a near new 3400 or buy one a bit cheaper with under 50,000 miles and then re-build it up a bit. I don't want to get to crazy with the rebuild as I don't want to run into any problems once it is in. If there are things that I can do to it during the rebuilding process that will help me out with some more power, I am all for it unless I need the computer reprogrammed or anything else drastic like that. List me off some "best bang for my buck" parts that I should consider for power should I go for the rebuild.
Thanks

4banga+turbo+5speed = pimp. I should know.
It's really easy (relatively speaking) to put a 3400 in a car that has a 3100 or 2.8 or 3.1, rather than installing a 2.3 or 2.4L.
