3400 for lq1 swap
Would it be possible to swap the 3400 thats in my car right now for a 3.1 liter lq1 motor? What i'm looking for is the highest amount of stock horsepower i can get in my car before i start any heavy modification, and my local junkyard happens to have 4 or 5 lq1's available.

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
I'm really not sure. All I know is that the LQ1 is a 3.4 liter DOHC engine that came in the older W-Bodies. If you have a NEWER W-Body- MAYBE- but in that case. I DEF don't think that swap would be even CLOSE to worth it for 35 horsepower. If you have a GA, or an Alero w/ 3400 now- you MAY have a hard time getting that work out OKAY, as the engines are mounted totally different. I say, SELL the car if you'd like it to be faster and start over with a engine that's greater than (or 'CAN BE' greater than, for a reasonable price) an L67 or HIGHER HP engine. You know?
GOOD LUCK to you!
PS - I personally don't like how difficult it is to MAINTENENCE the LQ1. They ain't easy. RUN GREAT on the top end, but are JAM PACKED in there and can be a MAJOR pain in the A$$. (although, IF maintained properly and cared for they ARE pretty reliable.)

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
awfulwaffle, what is your goal for this car?
Show car? Impress your friends with extravagant engine swaps? Speed? So you can say "I have more than 200hp" (in a car that already has 170)?
Do you want to race the car? or have it as a daily driver with more HP than stock?
Please give us more information, Thanks!

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
Honestly, I just love screwing around with cars and engines. I'm trying to get as much as i can out of it n/a, and then i'm going for a vortech sc kit unless i can find something better. Eventually, racing seems like a good goal to aim for, but as of right now i'm just trying to get a higher-than-stock HP.

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
Well from what I know on the 3.4L DOHC, there is not much aftermarket and what there is is expensive, Mike Miller at Milzy motorsports does a bit with the engines pretty much any 3x00, when i asked about it, he suggested against it due tot he price, heads alone are about 15-1700 bucks for the fact that it is DOHC and you have to have custom parts made.
Would be a cool idea as a DOHC V6 would do well for racing, good low end and high end, just a lot of work and expensive.
Do able yes, it is a 60 degree v6 as is your 3400, but like I said it is just a matter of price and money.

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
The 3400 has much more potiential/aftermarket than the 3.4 DOHC.

Re: 3400 for lq1 swap
Try Pushrod Performance - 60DegreeV6.com they been using RWD pistons and a 3400 will have 3.4 RWD pistons in a 3400 and the .040 gaskets it's 13.9:1
3.4 RWD pistons in a 3400 and the .060 gaskets it's 12.9:1
3.4 RWD pistons in a 3400 and the .045 ROL gaskets: 13.64:1
3500 top end has around 11.5 w/ 3.4 RWD pistons. I'm currently building a 3500 top end motor.I would go with the 3400 headgaskets that are .060 thick to keep more piston clearance.
