Angry I screwed up big time.

When I bought the car I drve down the street and the car quit. The power wasn't drianed it juust died. the funny thing is that it would crank right back up. When i first got the car I felt like I wasn't getting all my power. I tried to replace the vally pan in the engine and everything went great or so i thought. I put everything back together the right way but now the car only goes up to 43 miles an hour and it quits at stop signs. Loud knocking sounds are comming from the engine and it seems like the engine doesn't rev over 2,000 rpm. Im taking any and all suggestions. Please help!!!!!

The car is a 1993 chevy corsica. It has a 3.1L 6 cyclinder engine.

Re: I screwed up big time.

so you had the problem b4 you worked on the car? all you replaced was the valley pan? did you replace the intake manifold gaskets as well? my only guess with the knocking noise is that a valvetrain component came loose... like a rockerarm or pushrod. take the valve covers off and check to make sure everything is still in place.

Unhappy Re: I screwed up big time.

Its true that the car would quit when I first got the car but when I changed the oil, the fuel filter and the spark plugs and the problem dissapeared. As soon as I changed the vally pan, the car stop going over 43 miles an hour and it stops all the time. It DOES NOT REV OVER 2000 RPM. I kind of think Its the timing. what do you think?

Re: I screwed up big time.

why did you replace the valley pan?

i still think it's a valvetrain component.

Re: I screwed up big time.

Where you able to resolve this?

As for the knocking, I am clueless, but back in the day I had a car do what you are describing, but without the knocking, one

my firebird broke the belt, and while checking that out, found the Cat Converter was totally clogged and shot.

I am just saying you very well could have multiple issues rather than one ,so dont rule anything out.
