Performance Parts for 1987 2.8L ?

New member, first post.

I've had some trouble locating performance parts for my 1987 Cavalier Z24. Mantapart is NOT a choice, so I'm wondering if any members here have places to suggest. If you have a similar motor (OBD1) and care to share any mods/gains achieved, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Tim

60degreev6.com WOTtech.com

Your best bet is to upgrade to 2000 or newer 3100 heads, or 3400 heads (they all were the same after 2000).

Thanks, I'll look into that. I would imagine this will require different exhaust manifolds, and possibly intake?

Yes, use the intake manifolds that corrispond to the heads. Exhaust manifolds have the same bolt pattern, but upgrading to the newer stuff will flow better.

My shop is hoping to have some "universal" headers soon, you will still need to have someone weld the down pipe etc if you can't make it yourself.

Re: Performance Parts for 1987 2.8L ?

Ok correct me if i'm wrong? But you cant use aluminum heads from the 3x00 motors for the 2.8 cause gm
changed the design for the front wheel drives. So what i would suggest is get a 93-95 camaro, firebird 3.4 its the exact same as the 2.8. So if your building the motor, swap the the 3.4 motor and use the heads to. that are on the 3.4 just cause there newer.Btw the 3.4 block its stronger that the 2.8 block cause there is no webing on the 2.8 as there is for the 3.4 its on the bottom of the block. if you swap the 2.8 for the 3.4 you just put all the 2.8 stuff back on it and call it good. if you do that switch over to DIS its alot better the Distrubitor. better performance. But if you want 2.8 stuff you should try to look on firostore.com at there performance package and as for A.R.I don't have them port any heads for you sorry but i had them do it and i had to report them
:( $900 down the drain but the good is i got performance springs, and locks for them

You can use aluminum heads on the RWD blocks. Been done many times now. Iron heads are pathetic in comparison and you couldn't possibly modify them enough with the manifolds as well to compete against the FWD parts.

IMO A.R.I is NOT the way to go had them do the P&P on my 3.4 RWD block and was
not happy with it brought it home and did it myself.
