Cool LE5 methyl-water injection?

Anyone have any experience using methyl alcohol and water injection on a natural aspirated LE5 VVT engine with the E67 ECU?

I'm considering using a progressive controller driven by the MAF output to spray 2 GPM to 6 GPM AFTER the MAF and before the Throttle Body in the straight section of a Short Ram Induction system.

I believe the ECU will lean the injectors as the IAT lowers from the Methyl Alcohol and the increased cylinder pressure from the water vapor. The result will be greater fuel economy during acceleration.

Anyone have any arguments or comments?

Re: LE5 methyl-water injection?

well, it works on paper but the actually logistics will be much more difficult. becuase of the rapid cooling most of the engine sensors will react but remember you have exhaust stuff to worry about. o2 sensors that will read weird and others in the motor that will go hey-wire. are you getting a tune on it? This type of injection would work better on a tuned boosted motor. You will see results on a NA but a boosted motor is where you will see the most gains.

Cool Re: LE5 methyl-water injection?

I've learned that one needs to continuously "mist" water at rate of 12.5 percent of the required air mass in order to achieve a 10-12 percent HP increase in a NA application. The problems are: Few if any of the current Water Injection vendors provide small enough nozzles (several are needed for cruise to WOT), a 100 percent duty cycle pump, and a smart controller to open several water solenoids to work over the range of air mass that will be encountered in normal operation. I can design a system to achieve fuel economy at a given cruise speed AND performance at WOT for about $600 but my cost/benefit ratio given my current annual fuel expense does not justify the investment in materials and labor.
