Unhappy New pipe good-Idle bbaaddd!

I just installed a APC universal muffler(159010) on my 2.2 ecotec cavalier. It sounds great, but it idles around 900 rpm and it pops slightly. Why is this? Not enough back pressure? Can I adjust something? Or can someone reccomend a better muffler for the ecotec? Please help!

First off: Welcome to the forum!

What did your car idle at before you had the muffler installed? Where excatly are the pops comming from? Is it an engine sound, exhaust gas, or the muffler warming up?
Does it Pop at idle, or when you rev and let off?

APC products in general are not built very well. I have no experiance with their Exhaust products, but I wouldn't expect this to last very long.

My cavalier idles at about 600-700 at running temp. With the new pipe it idles at about 900rpm and it sounds kinda choppy like its missing but i know it is not.And yes when i revv the engine and let off it pops.Would more air going into the engine help, because the intake is stock right now. Have you ever heard of this problem with imports that are bone stock but have had a canister muffler installed?? I know as well that apc is pretty cheap stuff, but even borla and magnaflow stuff has almost the same back pressure dont they? thanks for the advice man!

It's seems strange that the idle would change just by putting a different muffler on the end of the piping.
It's been a long time sense I changed any exhaust bits, so I'm not sure what to say.

Does it sound kind of like this? That's normal. I have 2.5" piping though.
