im not sure what you consider expensive but,
performance plugs, under $100 (wont neccisarily add much power) exhaust, 3-900 (the biger the pipe the more flow) injectors are good to richen up the mixture(however this requires computer work, some times), no doubt your runnin a bit leaner now with the intake but make sure u put on ones that are right for the setup u dont wana run to rich either. you can add about 20% of ur power with that maybe more i hear the ecotec responds well to tuning. make sure what ever you do to talk to a machanic to tell you what oil u should be using with your mods. just so you know youve voided the warinty by puting on an intake or any of the things iv mentioned. its a prity new car and i cant find any thing on parts for it so good luck on findin stuff. surprised you found an intake pipe for it |

Welcome to the site. Will you share some more info on your car, like transmission and paint color, for those of us who are curious?
Also, a little advice for your car. Don't change your spark plugs, they're new like the rest of the car. You'll get little to NO power benefit from a plug change at this stage. Don't get new injectors either, or bigger injectors for that matter. the stock injectors can support a lot more power than you're currently making, and the ECU compensates fuel delivery, to an extent, for additional airflow modifications you will be doing. The CAI is a good start for this. It helps to ask yourself 'how can I make my engine cycle more air?' well, the air has to pass through a filter, an intake pipe, throttle body, intake manifold, intake ports/valves in cylinder head, combustion chamber, exhaust ports/valves, exhaust manifold or header, and all the other exhaust components. Consequently, all of these can be modified to allow more air to pass through. Now you should have a better idea of which bottlenecks you want to eliminate. I would recommend replacing the exhaust system as a next step(s). Even if it takes a while to save that $$, it will be worth it. You will get the most bang for your buck improving the exhaust flow. holler back if you need more good advice. |

Methyl Alcohol and Water injection is a good way to get a reasonable HP increase without making serious and costly modifications to your engine. Kits are available that will you do the install with basic common tools.

Re: Pontiac G5
something simple to do to keep your car running good with the power it is designed to have is: to use top tier fuel (its in your owners manual.) Besides that full synthetic oil is good for aroune 3-5hp and better for the engine. Without tearing into too much and voiding the warranty there isn't a whole lot to do.

Re: Pontiac G5
thats true... most the things that u need to do most likely will effect ur warranty.... most of these little things only add a few hp(3-9)... i know that money is tight... but don't expect to run a mustang down on this lil things... the exhaust is a good thing to do.. just remember that compression and volume efficency are the thing that add ur power...other words... more in... tighter squezz...more out... more power... after the exhaust... try to get in with someone at a dealership... they can tune ur car to a performance level... but if u need parts... i know a few websites... kinda pricey... but woth it

Re: Pontiac G5
You won't see any increase in power from the following mods until you start to heavily mod the engine:
- Spark plugs & Wires - Fuel Injectors, Fuel Rail, or Fuel Pressure Regulator (same as what Jeremy said) - Cold air intake (mainly for sound, you might get 1-2 HP at the wheels) - Header (won't see any gains unless you couple it with a full exhaust) - Exhaust piping & muffler (mainly for sound, same gain as intake) - Pulleys - Aftermarket ECUs You really have to pair the header and exhaust together to see a slightly noticeable difference because the system is only as good as the weakest link. So for example if you got a header and matched it with the stock exhaust, your system would flow well until it hits the exhaust which will then constrict the flow. Same with an intake, you might get a slightly better flow to the intake manifold but your engine can only take in so much air before you're forced to do heavy engine work (port & polish, etc to allow more airflow) or force the air in via Turbo or Supercharger. I know it sucks, but that's really how it goes. You can spend a couple hundred bucks on bolt ons and like the new sound or you save up a lot of money and truly mod the engine for good power gains. It all depends on your budget and how much you like tinkering with cars. =) Just my $0.02 & Welcome to the boards.

Re: Pontiac G5
Hello VonZippy, I saw this post, I just purchased a 09 G5 and I cannot find and intakes, exhausts or performance parts very easily, all i have found so far is lowering springs, Rotors and Pads. Do you have a link for the intake you just purchased and does anyone know if there is a bolt on supercharger for this car?? I heard rumors there was. Thanks

Re: Pontiac G5
hi my names dillon live in kingston wondering what parts work best with the G5 such as AEM or K&N cold air intake, im goin with a magnaflow catback, but what headers are best got my eye on DC sport 4-1, also what performance programmers work best if anyone here has used one haven't before personally. Also I emailed AEM and their Coldair for the cobalt is compatible with the G5 as well as Injen for sure so anyone out there with that question there you go if you want further confirmation email the company yourself.

Quote:
Go here for the Hahn Racecraft turbo kit, yeah it says its for the 05-07 but I dont see why it wouldnt work with the 08 and 09 models either, same engine. 05-07 Pontiac G5 2.2L & 2.4L Turbo Kits - LE5 L61 LN2 Go here for a custom Trifecta tune, they work wonders with the ecotec. Trifecta Performance Custom Tuning :: Home Page and News Exhaust parts here, or you can do what I did and get the GM performance catback exhaust from a GM dealership, it sounds great. G5*Exhaust Here you can get a TON of various performance parts for the engine. Just go to "Engine Parts" then click on "2.2 Ecotec Twin cam", its all stuff for the 2.2 ecotec engine and they have everything you could ever need, thats where im getting alot of my parts from for my build I got planned. Mantapart Performance Products I hope I've provided what you were looking for. ;) |
