switching from auto to manual

Hey I am thinking about switching my Grand Am from auto to manual... I was wondering if anyone has done this before and if it is hard to do or any tricks to it? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks
Brandon

Re: switching from auto to manual

yes i have. not too bad, but you will have to weld up or fabricate your own trans mount brackets to the frame of the car. other than that, its fairly straight forward, although involved. i would recommend getting all the parts together first, and take into consideration your car will be out of commission for at least a week or two.

Re: switching from auto to manual

it was real easy just go out and buy a new clutch and get a stock flywheel resurfaced or get the light weight one , and also find a friend to help you also, the only thing that sucks is reprogramming your ecu for manual tranny. i had a parts car so i was able to cut off the tranny mounts and then weld them back on the 97. i don't know about rules in junk yards around you but we can't use power tools when we go so the mounts might be a pain for you to get

Re: switching from auto to manual

Brandon...Bob has a trans out of his old turbo GA and I think he still has a lot of the parts for it, plus we still have access to the donor car...let us know what you need and we will see what is left.
