Pontiac G8
By John Larson
General Manager, Buick, Pontiac, GMC
I think that most auto enthusiasts agree that it takes three basic characteristics to make a great performance car: great power, great handling and great looks. It’s a timeless formula and, looking back through our history, one that the very best Pontiac cars have followed.
It’s also the essential DNA that we strive for with modern Pontiacs. The Solstice GXP is a great example of how to blend power, performance and design into a vehicle that stirs the passion of drivers and spectators alike.
Enthusiasts both on and off the web are always asking me when they can expect more of these kinds of exciting Pontiacs, and today we're proud to deliver...
Today, at the Chicago Auto Show, Pontiac revealed the next step in our commitment to power, handling and looks: the 2008 G8 performance sedan. Wrapped in a clean, taut form, this rear-wheel drive sedan will offer a 261-hp V6 or a 362-hp V8 engine linked to a sport-tuned four-wheel independent suspension system designed to provide crisp handling, even when running a zero-to-60 times of well under five-and-a-half seconds.
In short, inside and out, the G8 is everything a Pontiac should be and we are very excited that it will be available in dealerships in early 2008.

The G8 is the replacement for the Grand Prix, so the our friends to the north will likely get the G8 as well.

This car has been heavily watched on ls2gto.com for some time. Funny that the G8 hood and front resemble sketches of what the future GTO may look like. I definitely like the G8, being a GTO owner helps. The interior quality alone going from a Grand Am to a GTO has me sold on Australians ability to build quality autos. Anybody else notice how a G8 looks like a Pontiacized CTS?

yeah. interesting the CTS isn't even built on the same platform. The G8 is a zeta platform car and the CTS is a sigma platform.
since the camaro is also a zeta platform car, it would be nice if the new GTO shared some sheet metal with the camaro...
they can create an array of entirely different cars by using "modules..." but using common architectural components. the camaro and G8 share the same archetecture but don't look much alike. this is a good thing... hopefully the GTO will share a similar look to the camaro, or maybe even its own, unique look.

It's a good step in the right direction for GM. I just hope they produce a proper performance package with less luxuries to save weight instead of more. I can live without power everything, uber sound systems, and leather to save 100+ lbs. Pontiac is a performance brand, not luxury.
