The economy is a roller coaster and GM is on the ride and moving quick as well. The stock price has dumped, talks of mergers, lay-offs around the industry, etc.

What do you think? Where do you think GM is headed? Are you worried about the future of the GM brand?

Probably in a merger with Chrysler.

Stock is less than $5.00 a share now.Good thing I dumped mine in 2000 @ $60.00...whew!

Not sure what GM would do.Probably slash a lot of the Chrysler line where there is overlap on the brands.

Have to wait and see I guess.

At least they would be the largest automaker again with a 36 % market share.

Look GM has run its self into the ground by a couple of reasons that I have discussed in another thread. It has not made appealing autos until the last few years, their costs are ineffective. they are to wasteful, and too large just to name a few. I love GM and want to see them stay alive but if you can't run a business then in a "free" market it should fail. The government has backed out 3 largest auto makers for far too long and this is what it is, "spare the rod, spoil the child" the government has bailed em out 3 times in the last 25 year. GM should of been making cars like the volt in the 70s and 80s when they made the first marketable electric car. Now their trying to scramble to make the technology when if they had been working on it since then they would not be in such a big mess. They can finally again make cars that you can drive hard and still last more than 100k with out major problems. Honda, Toyota and Nissan grabbed that market a long time ago. GM, Ford and Chrysler are all in some deep woes. even if GM and Chrysler merge its going to be a messy, dirty merger. Its like doing field surgery with a rusty scalpel and no disinfectant just to maybe keep the patient alive long enough to get them back to the hospital. its going to be messy and some of our fav lines from both will be on the chopping block. Both of these companies need to go on a diet and cut their spending, make proper cars, and take care of their workers, then they will have a chance to survive.

It's been a little since this post was started .. I heard about GM doing away with Saturn and only keeping Chevy, GMC, and Buick. Anyone else hear that?

GM has told Saturn dealers to hold off any moves for 60 days while GM figures out what to do with the brand.

GM has split from Opal and Saab is in limbo since the Swedish government said they will not loan GM money to keep Saab viable.

Looks pretty bleak still as GM burns through cash at a fast rate.
