Case Fan Fiasco
At the last LAN Party I went to my computer was over heating. My buddy suggested I should turn one fan around to make it more effichant. Then add more fans, I agreed. And hey the pimp 120mm ones are only $12 right?. (1) more for the side (1) for the top, that should cool more than sufisinaltly.
Fast forward to last week. Started looking at fans more seriosuly. Choose the $12.05 "Enermax Adjustable Speed 120mm Cooling fan", Max Air Flow:(CFM): 63.05~94.92, Noise(dBA): 24.60~30.10. Thinking hey thats not bad. But if I'm going to get new fan's i need grills, cause my case should look pimp. The only grills in 120mm are kinda basic but still look cooler than the stock "normal" ones. Slap a $6.50 charge for each of them. wow. we are getting up there.
Fast forward again to today. Fedex dropped them off! WO! Plugged one in just to see how it compars to the 80mm's in the side of the case now and damn the FLOW IS SO much BETTER! I was hungry so I drove down to Jack-in-the-box for a panitto, figured as long as I was out drop by the hardware store to pick up a 4.5 inch hole cutter. ACE hardware wanted $40! Damn, all i want to do is cut a hole in some 16 gauge steel and 1/8th inch pexiglass. Drove on down to Home Depot across town. Started looking around, the only thing they had was a $25 round part + a $12 center peace. Farg. Well, thats $3 cheeper than ACE.
Grand total after shipping and taxes ~$85. For two 120mm fans, to go in the side of my Computer Case. I am a nerd and dumb.

i just got rid of my 'ol kryotech phase refridgeration beast of an ATX case. picked up a slick lil black case with an acrylic front cover. very simple, clean, sleek lookin. then i slapped in a couple red LED cooler master 80mm fans with biohazard grills in the back, and snagged a 3.25" (78mm?) hole saw and 1/2" arbor and cut a fan hole for the front. well i had to cut the hole twice cuz the first time it ended up slightly off-center, don't know how, so i used a 3.5" hole saw and its center now but i got a bunch of light scratches on the acrylic from metal shavings everywhere. anybody know of a good safe way to buff scratches out of acrylic? :(

computers overheat for a lot of reasons. dust buildup in the fans/heatsinks, overclocking, improper fit of the heatsink on the processor core, etc. you have a dell, you should be fine. case modding is more for the DIY computer enthusiasts who like to overclock and tweak their rigs and such.

I've not done any overclocking yet because my computer is fast enough.
But with 4 hard drives, 2 video cards, and a P4 3.0Ghz, the thing gets really HOT.

lol dam why you all need so many fans? my processor is probaly the hottest one and i only have two fans, one for the processor and one for the case, (i'm not counting the one on the video card), dam! cept my heat sink is massive, bigger than my hole hand. i have 2 drives, a 9800pro, and a 1.8gh processor. just strap a radiator fan on the side of yours, lol

If I go in to a game i'm afrade its gonna crash. so yea. Just haven't had time.
maybe i just need to get a new case, and just chuck this one.
