As far as linux is concerned I prefer Mandrake. Easy to set up, stable, geared towards desktop use, packed with tons of software, etc. I still use XP most of the time because of Excel (no time to learn new formulas used in open office), but I run a lot of games in Linux (UT, UT2003, RTCW, Neverwinter Nights, etc) as well as a lot of my web browsing.

you dont have to buy linux do you? can i just dl it from like linux.com? also whats the best OS to get and how much HDD space do i need to partition for it?
