so i got a virus
Ok my email server sent me an email and it said i neede to read the attatched file...it was FROM my email server "management@xmsg.com" so i figuredi t was legit
so i open the attatchment and my computer is going fuckin crazy ever since....it seems to have corrupt winup.exe (windows automatic updater) but the thing is...its killing programs, they run in the background, but they dont display and i cant use them....unfortunately killing any way for me to run norton... :( it seems to have affected media player the most and then a bunch of other pgorams liek norton....but IE and firefox still run as well as AIM, MSN msngr, and weatherbug...
anyone have any suggestions on how to purge this little bitch of a virus?

Sorry jordus, but it sounds like your shit out of luck :(
Im not sure how to fix this but I can tell you that there has been viruses going around that use "fake" e-mail address. Its actually not from your service provider, but it makes it look like it was. I got one from ebay that asked me to give them my info or they will terminate my account.
Just keep in mind in the future, NEVER open attachments!!
As for fixing this... id try nortons website, or ask at the techtv forums at www.techtv.com, they have some knowledgeable people there.

copy everything you need from your hd and then do a restore. install a new updated virus program and scan all the new files before putting them on your computer.

Don't EVER download anything from any email. If a company needs you to download something they will tell you to go to there web site.
Never click on a link in an email either.
Sorry dude, do like 95-gagt says.

I would do a 'find' in your registry...find it, and delete it...if its a worm however, they have a tendency to re-work themselves back into the registry, even after you have deleted it. Good luck dood...

we had an outbreak of this at work, and they suspended all attachments for about 3 days...they said they had to do a system restore, and then like josh said, clean all temp files

this is for anyone that doesnt have an antivirus program and use the internet/email/etc...
download AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System at
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php
it's free and they update it VERY frequently. since my norton expired, i used to run a firewall on my computer (still do sometimes). but since then, i've d/led that and ran updated it every few weeks. its a very good program for free. i recommend it.
----------------------------
as for this virus (W32.Beagle.M@mm ), here's a removal site that explains what to do. though i'm sure you have this since you went to symantec.com
http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html
found this too from google http://www.littlewhitedog.com/article3578.html
like josh said, clear your temporary folders... internet folder as well. though i'm sure it wont help with this problem, its a good idea to keep those clean.
hopefully you can fix it from the symantec sit... good luck

have you tried booting from the norton cd (that is, if you have it)? it'll take forever and a day to scan all your shit but at least it won't give you bullshit like "uhh we found a virus but we can't delete it cuz we suck" error screen like it would in a windows environment.
