Yeah, as already posted there is a new virus out. We got this at work today.
UI Computer Users,
Microsoft has issued a warning of a serious security vulnerability in all of the current versions of Windows that not only allows an attacker to run code on vulnerable machines, but also enables them to install software and change or delete data. This vulnerability is being labeled as one of the most serious flaws yet to be discovered in Windows. If interested, you can read more at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../winfeb04.asp. Attackers exploiting the weakness essentially would have free reign over compromised machines, which likely would give them access to whatever networks those PCs are on as well.
There is no workaround for the vulnerability at this point, but Microsoft has released a fix (or patch). Since this vulnerability resides in most versions of Windows (Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003), it is important that all UI computer users running Windows patch your machine. To update Windows, you may visit
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and follow the directions, or contact the ITS Help Desk at *******
Thank you,
ITS Administration
