Why I'm a duck
5 years ago (damn), freshman year in college I was supposed to go to Taco Bell with the guys accross the hall. So me and my girl (yes, same one..."Gabrielle") were waiting for them to knock on the door to let us know they were leaving. Hours went by and they never stopped by. I looked out the window and noticed their Grand Cherokee was gone. I knocked on their door and nobody answered so I got pissed. I stormed back into my room, grabbed my phone, and called their room. Nobody picked up, so I hit the voicemail. I wasn't sure what to say...I was pissed. First thing that came to mind was to yell some loud animal noise. I started quacking.
:p I hung up the phone, wondering why that split second decision was to quack...I never figured that out. My girl and I went to Taco Bell ourselves and all was forgotten. The next day, I get back from class to find voicemail. It was highly unusual for me to get voicemail unless it was to announce a snow closure or whatnot. "Press one to hear your new messages." I listened to 2 minutes of quacking, apparently coming from my hallmate. Exchange of the quacking voice mails continued for a few days, and then left the domain of the campus phone system. The "quack" started to become an appropriate interjection to use in several social situations. :cool: Months go by and my roomates eventually began to quack on occassion. People in my fraternity did it. I would occasionally sign my name drawing a duck next to my signature on unofficial documents. When I'd play Unreal Tournament or Quake II, I'd use "Mallard" as my player name. People expected me to quack once in a while, and I did. :) It spread into my family and my workplace. Coworkers would quack. My father would quack. People quacked, and were happy. It was a beautiful thing. Years passed and the frequency of quacking diminished. Over the time I've grown an affection for the little flappers. I have a small duck lamp in my room, a rubber ducky, and a duck shower curtain. I go to the pond with Gabrielle every so often to feed the ducks. And now the story of how I became a duck is finally put to words for all to read.

now I'm going to start thinking about that story everytime I use the bathroom in my girlfriend's apartment lol. She's got ducky wall paper and a ducky shower curtain.
