Its interesting that you say that. According to evolutionary theory, the fittest specimens of a species are the ones that produce the most offspring. Being "fit" doesn't ential strength, the ability to live long, or anything... it only involves propogation. A man who only lives to 25 and has 15 kids is more "fit" than one that lives to 120 and only has a single child.

Hence, as the theory goes, men try to spread their genetic material to as many prospective partners as possible, to try to ensure the maximum possible number of offspring. Hence, the theory states that men are naturally promiscuous. Women are only concerned about raising their children, so they want a man who will stick with them long enough so they can raise their young... hence women, according to the theory, are naturally geared towards being faithful to one man.
