egr valves?

does the GA 3.1 have an egr valve? what is it for? can it run without it? i hear they suck but don't know much more than that.

Yes. it's that cylinder shaped thing with a triangular plug on the top near the upper right side of the UIM. It stands for exhaust gas recirculation (an emissions device). Yes it can be bypassed, but I don't know the details about doing that.

Yes it has an egr valve, it recirculates exhaust fumes which is supposed to give you better gas mileage, mine has run without it for over a year, they do suck and that's why I haven't replaced mine. That being said I'm not sure about WV but my car doesn't pass inspection without the EGR Valve but that's ok because a lot of other aspects of the car are illegal and I have a friend that owns a shop.

There is no performance to be had on this engine by bypassing the EGR.

This is well documented on 60dv6.com :)
