BlackJack

I guess after several posts, I should introduce myself :)

As you can guess by my photo, I'm in the Army currently, and yes...just did a stint in Iraq that ended earlier this year.

I'm currently building my '03 Alero, and under sponsorship from Donkey Punch Performance, am working to hopefully set some new records for late model N-bodies this year.

Here's a couple of pics, of me, and my favorite hobby....

and more of my favorite toy....not going for bling...strictly for zing....pshhh...heh

before I installed the front grille, you can see the radiator for the liquid-air intercooler in the front air dam.

thank you. unfortunately, I have so much left to do for performance upgrades that it looks like it will have to stay ugly for a bit :)

I outsmarted myself on that one and began with the body kit and as soon as it was installed, decided to change direction and start in on the performance.

I am looking forward to the time when I can have a car that all matches!

Nice setup, how much PSI and what turbo are you running? Is that a remote or does the turbo go directly to one of your manifolds?

thank you all. So far I'm starting off with stock compression and bringing that down to about 8.5:1 so I can add more timing and avoid the detonation monster. The turbo is a Super T70, and is setup for a peak of 30psi which I'll never see. Currently I'm working it out to about 12 psi for the street, and 15-18psi for the track. Next season after the transmission work is complete (swapping for a built 4t65hd) I should be pushing just over 20psi.

I know that doesn't sound like impressive boost levels exactly, since there are civics out there running 25-30 psi, but at my compression ratio, well....

thanks, germ is working on the store right now while he's finishing up current orders. The holiday sale and subsequent orders got them swamped beyond belief, so he's about caught up and almost ready to start taking new orders again. Stay tuned on the DPP forum for info about when it is opening again.

huh, didn't know they had a forum. i'll have to sign up there under my other name...thanks for the info though, i've been wondering what happened to it. kinda makes it hard to develop a mod schedule for my 3400 if i can't see all of my possibilities, heh.

Looks like things are definitely going good for your car, I would have so much more done to my car already if I had the $$, lol, isn't that ALWAYS the hold up? You know it's sad though, with enough money you can make any car fast. So it's not always the battle of the best, it's the battle of the richest. Anyways, I got off topic. I went to a car show, and they put my car in the same class as this gorgeous perfectly flawless 69 Camaro SS, I was like, wtf?! I can't compete with that!! lol But he deserved the trophy. So anyways, my car is under construction too, but the primer doesn't look bad on your car, it just makes people wonder. Good job.

thank you kindly.

I know what you mean about battle of the richest, sometimes you gotta do innovative things to get the edge. Have you tried a rear-mount turbo from STS? I'm not a fan of rear-mounted, but they do give horsepower, and you alleviate the cost of the turbo-specific headers in the whole system.

That's odd that they put your car in the same class with a classic. Usually most car shows that's worth the time has separate classes for classic and late model, because that's like comparing apples and oranges :)

Car show or not, I like your Formula.

Nice car, and incredible turbo! Good to have you and your car here.

You know I have to ask it.

When will the villagers see timeslips?

headers have been taken down for reconstruction, they were a little too close to some other accessories for my liking. Soon as they're redone, they'll be sent out for Jet-Hot coating, and I'm looking forward to late May for reassembly, then early June for completed tune.....then it's off to the tracks. If anyone is interested, I already ran a baseline at Southwest International Raceway, before turbo install. Altitude was 3,100 feet at the track, and the runs were conducted with only two mods installed. Cold air intake, and B&M shift+

Run 1: 16.55 @ 85.3 mph
Run 2: 16.58 @ 85.5 mph
Run 3: 16.53 @ 85.7 mph

I figured this way I can show what kind of times the mods are worth once done. I'm debating on a day at the dyno's before the new track runs though.

Other mods included with the build once the headers return:

Heads: SI stainless valves w/ 3-angle valve job
fully hogged as far as they'll go (ported/polished)
Manley #350 springs
Titanium retainers/locks
full copper headgaskets with stainless bore rings, waterjet cut, custom.
ARP head stud set

Intakes: 3400 LIM ported/polished
3500 UIM ported/polished, matchported to 70mm at the neck

TB: from 4.3 Vortec

MAF: 5-wire with integrated IAT

Wastegate: 48mm

BOV: 50mm

Injectors: 42.5# (debating on jumping to 60# near future)

Home built boost controller

DHP PowrTuner

Walbro 255 lph fuel pump

Undecided on brand/type FPR, but I'm going for a 1:1 rising rate for boost.

Kenne Bell Boost-a-Spark, Boost-a-Pump

MSD coil packs

Taylor Spiro-wound 8mm wires

Exhaust: Full 3" through cat delete pipe, then split to dual 3", and kicking out to triple pipes on each side at the back of the sideskirts, just for visual effect :) Mufflers undecided at this point. This is gonna be a problem though, cuz on the pass. side, the fuel tank is sitting too close to where I want the pipes to exit (plastic tanks, dammit!) So this is gonna take a round fuel cell to sit in the spare tire well.

Future additions: Crane 1.6 fulcrum roller rockers
working on options for double roller timing set
Ross custom pistons
modified Eagle H-beam rods

Of course, transmission work, we're currently toying with options for a severe buildup on the 4t45, or a heavily built ZZP 4t65HD
