Re: Dual Exhaust for my GT1
Thx Tony.
But some people would just say I am full of hot air. (Swing and hit) If you want to get a dual exhaust on your car, it all depends on what you prefer. Flow rate,sound type, budget to spend and the look you want. For Borla, it has a good flow rate is fairly low and throaty, but may not be the amount of money you want to spend. SLP has a good flow rate, is less expensive, but does rust after 4-5 years. If you are going for only performance, but are concerned about cost as well, you may want to talk to a shop like "Benders" because they can put a good pipe and muffler package together. It all depends on what kind of mix you are looking for. In my case I wanted a high flow, nice sound and lasts forever. But it did cost a pretty penny. GL

Re: Dual Exhaust for my GT1
Hi Rob;
Glad your project is finished. We'll have to do lunch at Subway one day. Did you get your Borla system local or did you bring it in from the US? I'm leaning to the Borla system. What is a pretty penny? Trying to get a price on a complete installed price. Where was yours installed? Rick |

Re: Dual Exhaust for my GT1
Well in a way the Grand AM will never be completely done, but it is improving over time. the Cost for a full cat back Borla Exhaust setup is around the 750-900$ range. Sometime you can find it for sale online but most of the those sites are US, so you can add exchange and shipping for that. I bought it through a local dealer in 2002 and the fellow said he didn't want to make any money, just hear the sound of it. He did just that. I got a good deal for it at the time and had it installed for a 50$ cash job.
I like it for the fact it does sound nice and has a good flow rate plus it is guarantied for life. If you do want a performance setup I would recommend getting a high flow cat. If you remove the cat all together you will not see many gains, but there are several down sides. Illegal setup, Enviromental effects, Poorer sound and it's just not responcible. A high flow cat costs around 100$ and will not hamper any performance. For my entire Exhaust setup I have Full headers- Magnaflow High flow cat (spun)- Borla Cat back. It's a nice combination that will last a very long time. I will let you be the judge of the sound. GL

Re: Dual Exhaust for my GT1
If performance isn't the goal, I'd suggest just replacing the muffler with a Magnaflow one made for firebirds/camaros. Extreme Performance on McPhillips is another good shop to get custom work done.
I have a new-in-the-box 2.25" high-flow cat sitting around if you want to go that route. Loosing the cat entirely will also set an engine code when the 2nd O2 sensor notices it isn't working. But that can be programmed out or you can replace the sensor with an O2 simulator.

I happen to have a O2 similator laying around. I ended up getting the code wiped. (thanks to Curt)
