I guess like vimjay said...probably jammed a screwdriver into the ignition. I've heard of that too. Here's the story so far:
I walk out into the parking lot. In this case, I knew exactly what spot I was in because I parked opposite a unique car that I recognized (believe it or not, an old Ford Tempo with 18"ers!).
first, I go into denial. "it's gotta be here somewhere. maybe I have the wrong spot after all...let's see if we can find any other 1992 Ford Tempos with 18" rims...I'm SURE there's more than one"
then I go into resignation. "ahhhh. shit. I can't believe it happened to me. why me? wait a minute, why NOT me?"
okay...the police line is busy. wife wants to call 911. I love my car, but it's not more important than a heart-attack someone's having.
my brother-in-law comes to pick me up. family starts to quietly mutter.."that's what you get for tricking it out"...maybe even some grim satisfaction from my most jealous friend.
THEN, 2:00am..I'm not sleeping anyway (this actually affected me quite a bit...the though of someone recklessly driving MY creation. Hell...with the identifiable taillights, I may have some explaining to do to people they cut-off who then recognize my care when I'm driving it in a month.
I try to picture a helpless husband, not able to afford a car, stealing mine just because he has to get his pregnant wife to the hospital. Nah, that's probably not the scenario.
So back to the 2:00am thing...Stonewall RCMP...found my car. The idiots dumped it in front of one of their houses and three witnesses recognized them driving away in THEIR OWN CAR. Yikes. RCMP are processing it and are laying charges.
I think I'll go down and meet them at some point...there were some guys admiring my car when I parked it. I gotta know if it's them.
Okay, so the RCMP officer tells me "it's a beautiful car". I'm sure hoping it still is. She says that there is no apparent damage. they just parked it and left. they did steal my rear plate, though.
One witness saw them underneath the car. So, it's getting fingerprinted now, to solidify the case. Got lucky and got an Autopac appointment tommorrow afternoon already.
Waiting for the update from the RCMP, but they'll tow it to Autopac tommorrow if I need them to. Then it goes to the dealership for a full inspection (they always check alignment, and I'll have them look for what they could have done under the car).
Then it gets fixed and I go get the immobilizer MPI is subsidizing.
Yeah, that's just about the whole story. I think I'm lucky it was found so fast, and that there were witnesses. No deductible for Autopac either.
Anyone know what type of immobilizer I should get? P.S. the cops said that Grand Ams have been a real target lately...take care of yours.
anyway, the idiots that stole it actually
