dude, where's my car?

just to let you all know...if you see my GT (dark green, clear taillights, borla, 18" rims, etc) driving around, grab it.

My car was officially stolen from Polo Park shopping center parking lot this evening. Really sucks. I'm sure they aren't driving carefully and they're probably unscrewing my taillights right now.

this is really painful.

Vimjah is on a distinguished road
Shitty deals dude :(

I'm gunna guess they took a screw driver and hammer and jammed it into the ignition... When my car got broken into last winter the guy @ MPI said that's how 90% of GA's were being stolen.

Passlock is stupid in that sense, because the resistor is in the lock cylinder, NOT the key so if you can turn the ignition cylinder somehow, you can start the car.

But damn that sucks...

Walking out of a mall to an empty lot where you car should be is a horrible feeling. I'd be more worried about your rims but I hope your car is found intact.

I guess like vimjay said...probably jammed a screwdriver into the ignition. I've heard of that too. Here's the story so far:

I walk out into the parking lot. In this case, I knew exactly what spot I was in because I parked opposite a unique car that I recognized (believe it or not, an old Ford Tempo with 18"ers!).

first, I go into denial. "it's gotta be here somewhere. maybe I have the wrong spot after all...let's see if we can find any other 1992 Ford Tempos with 18" rims...I'm SURE there's more than one"

then I go into resignation. "ahhhh. shit. I can't believe it happened to me. why me? wait a minute, why NOT me?"

okay...the police line is busy. wife wants to call 911. I love my car, but it's not more important than a heart-attack someone's having.

my brother-in-law comes to pick me up. family starts to quietly mutter.."that's what you get for tricking it out"...maybe even some grim satisfaction from my most jealous friend.

THEN, 2:00am..I'm not sleeping anyway (this actually affected me quite a bit...the though of someone recklessly driving MY creation. Hell...with the identifiable taillights, I may have some explaining to do to people they cut-off who then recognize my care when I'm driving it in a month.

I try to picture a helpless husband, not able to afford a car, stealing mine just because he has to get his pregnant wife to the hospital. Nah, that's probably not the scenario.

So back to the 2:00am thing...Stonewall RCMP...found my car. The idiots dumped it in front of one of their houses and three witnesses recognized them driving away in THEIR OWN CAR. Yikes. RCMP are processing it and are laying charges.

I think I'll go down and meet them at some point...there were some guys admiring my car when I parked it. I gotta know if it's them.

Okay, so the RCMP officer tells me "it's a beautiful car". I'm sure hoping it still is. She says that there is no apparent damage. they just parked it and left. they did steal my rear plate, though.

One witness saw them underneath the car. So, it's getting fingerprinted now, to solidify the case. Got lucky and got an Autopac appointment tommorrow afternoon already.

Waiting for the update from the RCMP, but they'll tow it to Autopac tommorrow if I need them to. Then it goes to the dealership for a full inspection (they always check alignment, and I'll have them look for what they could have done under the car).

Then it gets fixed and I go get the immobilizer MPI is subsidizing.

Yeah, that's just about the whole story. I think I'm lucky it was found so fast, and that there were witnesses. No deductible for Autopac either.

Anyone know what type of immobilizer I should get? P.S. the cops said that Grand Ams have been a real target lately...take care of yours.

anyway, the idiots that stole it actually

What is Autopac?

And awesome that they found it already.... how did they get in it and start it up? Damage to lock cylinders or no?

autopac is our public insurance for vehicles - everyone must have it...private insurance can be used to supplement it, though.

I'm not sure yet about exactly how they got in. Waiting for the update from RCMP (police)

yeah, but they're not mounted anymore. Now they drive.

oh, yeah...another update...the bastards stole my rims! They're covered by autopack, and I did just rub a curb not too long ago. But if anyone sees any 18" Core Racing CR238's (silver), kick their ass.

curt

Well it's good they found the car and that the guys who took it were stupid enough to leave it by their house. Hopefully the anti-theft laws are as tough as the politicians have been saying. When they find them it shouldn't be long before they find your rims too. If not, well maybe you'll find ones you like better.

All I have to say is wow, and damn you are lucky. Glad your car was found but wish it wasn't stolen to begin with. Guess I'm feeling a bit better I got that immobilizer. I would suggest if you plan to keep your car, get one too. Be sure to tell the details of this on sunday.

^^ It's not as good as you're thinking. Auto insurance is mandatory and unlike healthcare, we have to pay for it.

wow crazy, glad they found it so fast man, I would probably cry if that happend to me, good to see everything is gettin back to normal though.

on another note I like our insurance, because I don't really pay much and when old ladys back into my car it doesn't cost me anything to fix:D

and holy shit about what happend in New Orleans, it's crazy:confused:
