Frustrations of ordering parts
Well I figure this deserves its own thread, because I have to vent and wanted to hear if anyone has had the same woes as me when it comes to ordering parts.
Long story short, Chapter 1.
As many of you have heard I am in the midst of performing the front brake upgrade to Corvette/Camaro Calipers and larger rotors. Well I finally got my parts today. I have been waiting for about two weeks only for these two parts since I was able to purchase the other parts locally for a bit of a discount ( calipers, brackets and pads ). Well low and behold I was sent the wrong parts ( again ). I had ordered Front slotted and cross drilled rotors off of Summit racing for a 02 Impala. These are required for the switch due to the larger diameter of the rotors. Well I open the box and find they sent me rears.
As many of you know I generally have bad luck ordering parts. My previous set ( cross drilled ) took two tries, because they sent me two Right rotors. My headlights, took 3 tries to receive the proper ones. Also for the Rear cross drilled rotors I was sent a pair for a civic. I could go on and on and on...
Chapter 2
I call up summit and discuss with the supervisor about what they would be able to do to expidite this situation. I informed him that this was not the first time that an issue like this has happened and he did apologize. I was then told to hold and he would see what he could do. 10 mins later I am informed that I would have to follow the same policy and return them ground ( cost to me ) and they would try to get the correct ones to me. Well I took some more time to see if he understood that the cost to ship them back would be about 35$ and that I would also be charged for when the new ones arrive ( customs handling fee ). He said there would be nothing he could do. I then had to explain it out again... Yada , yada, yada. I was then told to hold.
Chapter 3
After holding for another 10 minutes, I am given the offer of keeping the current ones and he would give me a 10% discount on the correct ones and they would pay for express shipping on these new ones. This was all they would do. He was sure to express his frustrations to me. I added that I would have to go with this offer only if he could mark on the package that these are replacements. He then gets into a banter about how he will not violate law. I cut in asking " how does this violate the law? " You are replacing a incorrect order. I was sure to mention that I am not asking him to change the order value or modify the order description, only to mention on the slip that these are replacements. I then get a long pause, and a come back of " you know I wont violate law." I mention, this is not a violation, it is only providing added details about the shipment. He then continues on confirming my delivery information.
At the end of the confirmation I ask him again. " These parts I am ordering, I will be billed for the parts along minus 10%, but not for the shipping?" He assures me it will be for the parts alone.
After my luck in the past, I may seem a little sinicle but I wonder if I might ever receive the correct parts.
From all this I have learned a good lesson, sometimes it is better to pay a little more at your local parts store. At least you have the parts in your hand and can confirm that they are correct. In my case it seems the person packing or punching the info in, must be smoking something. Has anyone had a bad streak of luck similar to this one?
I know last week I promised to some that I would have the new brake setup installed, ready to show. It seems that might not be the case.
Thank goodness for Piston Ring!

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
Just to follow up. I got a status email that the order was going through and saw the following.
Part # Item Box Status Price Qty Price
SUM-DSEP-55034L DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTOR Ready to Ship on 05/23/07 $54.00 2 $108.00
Anyone notice a problem?
Who has two left front rotors? OMFG... "stupid is as stupid comes"

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
Where you able to get a hold of them before they closed yesterday?
I'm really sorry to hear about your frustrations, and hope it works out in the end. :)

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
Yeah, after waiting on hold for about 20 mins I got a hold of a service rep and he spotted the problem before I said anything. This is one of the reasons I prefer to do things myself. I prefer to buy locally because at least I can see if the part is correct, for the same reason I prefer to install things myself. That way I can put as much or a little care into the project as I want.

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
Wierd. I've made several orders with summit and the only problem I've had is what to do with the tons of catalogues and stickers they send me.

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
send me the stickers....that's what I really wanted and all I got was a silly hat. :) (actually I like the hat, but I wanted another set of stickers because you only get one of each size on a sheet)
Sorry about your problems. I have to admit it might just be your luck. I've ordered many things from summit and thankfully haven't got an order jacked up yet.

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
OMG... --yells at the top of his lungs--
It's Thursday, and I have wondered why the order that was supposed to be here on tues. has not arrived...
Well I called to see if I could get a tracking number and " not to my surprise the yutz's have not even shipped them out 8: -0
The customer service agent puts me on hold for 5 mins and comes back with a BIg appology saying outright we dropped the ball.
Seems the order was not sent out and there was no reason why it wasn't.
So, Now its another week and more stress. Just to prove this mod is going ahead I will bring out the parts I have so far. I am getting the rotors discounted and free shipping, along with a Summit 50$ gift cert. because of this BIG SCREW up.
So if you see me out sunday and wonder why I have grey hairs on my head, this is why...

Re: Frustrations of ordering parts
Well I finally received the rotors and yes they were the correct ones..
Sigh.
I will fit them on this friday or sat. and have the new brakes ready for Sunday. Hoorah!
PS. I will have a complete set of four cross drilled rotors for sale. I am asking about 50$ per rotor ( $200 for the set ) but will accept resonable offers as well.
