MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Okay, I've been thinking and thinking about this, and I am just wondering. Is anyone interested in doing this?

I say this for a few reasons:

1) The car show we went to in Minnesota was GREAT! I had a blast and yeah.

2) I've always wanted to try and attempt to do a car show

3) I think it would be great for whichever place we can do it at, and as well for the club image.

Because this would be our very first attempt at this, we would need to get the information out there, and advertise. Like on heights, gaownersclub, grandamgt, and other similar places.

And, there wouldn't be any awards or anything. Mainly because, if we do them, and only a few people come out, then, there's no merit to awards.

This is what my thought on it is:

We would have to have a presence there, mainly because it is Us that is putting it on. But again, our cars would have to be in shape and not broken (so no corey).

It would be open to any car/trucks/bikes(?). That way, we keep it diverse, and have a wide range from tuner, to classic, to exotic (I can probably get an exotic or two to arrive).

There would be an entrance fee, probably $5, or something.

We would have BBQ's running with hotdogs and hamburgers, and obvious charge those (while partipants get one with their fee... so the fee may be larger). Drinks as well (soda/water)

And, of course, all procedes will go to Cancer Society, or some other charitable organization (once we pay off all our supplies)... plus, have a donation box for people coming to see.

I wanted to start planning this out over the winter, that way I and go and ask a few people if we can have space for this (I'm hoping I can, or Jeff can, convince the owner to let us do it at Waverly during open hours, but starting at 4 or 5). If that works, then the customers can take a look at the cars outside, while they wait for their own cars to be done.... and attract attention to the wash as well :P

So does anyone want to do this? I'm just really curious. I'm sure we'd be able to get a few other places on the sponser's as well. I'm pretty sure I can get McNaught as my dad knows the owner there very well, and maybe some other places (Canadian Tire.... MAYBE PhatRide)

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Seriously, there is no interest in doing a big show and shine? I really want to know, because I'm going to have to start doing some planning and getting some sponsors and such.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

doesn't mean there's no interest. The big thing is to ensure that there are enough cars. The MGAC is fairly small so other car clubs would probably need to be invited (for example, a Pontiac thing rather than just GAs). A Pontiac group may want to take part and help with planning.

I think one thing we have to do is make MGAC cards - sometimes I see a modded GA somewhere and it would be good to put a card on the windshield so they know we exist.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

I wanted to get an associated night at the Pony Coral car show. This would be a sunday that our group get front row at the Grant park location. We could do this on a sunday as apposed to meeting at Advance, we would meet at Pony. This would be a chance to advertise our group and welcome in new members.

I was going to talk next spring about this idea.
We could also do a seperate Show and shine, as long as there is a supporting site and sponsor.

The Pony Coral idea is a good one. I put my car in that one a few times when it was at Pony Coral south Pembina. There are GA people around who would find us there if we were all together. We'll just have to make sure there's a full commitment because we can't arrange that with them and then have only 2 cars show up.

Damn it's sad to do such a thing without Jeff's wonderGA

Talking Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Hey Chris, glad you would like to start things rolling for next year. I think the idea Rob has would be great. It would give our club good exposure and we would pretty well be sure of a good crowd. My friend Jimmy is gone from the PC now so I guess Perry is looking after things now. Not sure though.
Hey Curt, I agree. I think the cards would be a great idea. Maybe Rob can set up a coffee or beer meeting to talk about the show and what everyone can do to help pull it off.
Well maybe Larissa will book her holidays for that time.

Ok lets stay on topic with Chris's idea first. I think it's a terrific idea. Not only because we'll be helping out a charity but we will get recognized as a good car club. Unlike how everyone on Heights makes us out to be.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

The Pony thing is good too but how often do we actually get everyone at pony? Especially since the Tavern has a much larger crowd now (even though they are pickier about what cars can park and parking is much smaller)

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

the only thing with pony and tavern is that they are someone else's car show's. Chris wants our car club to host it's own car show.

Then idea of getting front row at the pony is great. But that is just to show off our cars at front row. Where as Chris's idea is more then just front row seats.

(as stated above) Not only will we have our name on a car show but we will be helping out a charity at the same time.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Thanks Greg!

I'm still trying to find a decent location, and will hopefully try to have a place figured out in the next few months. I'm also going around to a bunch of places to see if they would like to be a part of the show. Anyone have some suggestions?

I've been thinking of:

Princess Auto
McNaught (Pontiacs :D)

I've also got to go and find out more info about doing things for chairty. Anyone have anything in particular? Or, should we just settle for Cancer Care?

Curt: About getting people to show up. Once I've got everything finalized, like location and sponsors, I'm going to be putting up a lot of info on it. AutoClubs, Tavern @ Regent, Pony, At all 3 Chamois locations (if i'm allowed) and stuff like that. But, that won't be done until close to the end of winter.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

MS society. I have an Aunt who has had it most of her life. And my grandma who is struggling these past 2 or 3 years with it. (mother of aunt)

Cancer Care is a good one too.

I say if we can, we split what ever we make to a couple charities if we make enough.

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Okay. Well lets go with MS for now. I know lil' conformity does Cancer Care, so we can leave that one alone.

Anyone can think of more ways to raise money during the show? I'm guess we could have a collection box for anyone (public), and maybe (counting my stars here) if any of the sponsors donate a few things, raffle them off?

Re: MGAC Offical Show 'n Shine?

Note: Any other posts not dealing with THIS Show 'n Shine for the MS Socitey will not be tolerated. Stay On Topic!

I'm going to make up a new post/thread once we have all the information. Here is what I still need:

1) Sponsors: If anyone has an idea for a sponsor, please respond or give some suggestions. The places I'm looking at are

McNaught (reason: Pontiac Dealership)
PhatRide Customs
Princess Auto
Canadian Tire (Reason: All their detailing products)
Music (I'm thinking either 99.9 BOB FM, or 92.1 CITI FM, due to their music nature)

2) Raffle draws:

Anyone have some ideas? I'm pretty sure that, unless we get some awesome sponsors that will donate stuff, we are going to need something that will help donate money to MS. An idea that I have is a nice detailing package. And maybe I'll run down to Fargo and pick up the Auto-Glass wax that Greg used.

3) Music

I'd prefer to have some music at the show. So we'll need some speakers, a nice soundboard and anything else. I've got a crap load of music (all types), so we can just use my laptop/iPod.

4) Food

I talked to greg about it last night, and I'm thinking of having hot dogs. Once we have sold enough to cover the costs, we donate the rest to MS... or just donate everything (It's for charity, so I don't mind taking in a loss, as long as it's not a BIG loss). Greg said that his dad would help BBQ and my dad as well. Drinks will be your typical pop. Havn't figured out pricing yet, but the driver of the vehicle in the show gets a free hotdog and drink (it's only fair / our gift for coming out).

5) Location

I'm going to be talking to the owner of the Chamois some time this week, with a tenative plan and such. If he says no, then we'll need to find another spot, preferably something with a big(ger) lot. Any ideas?

Anything else?
