Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
I don't live in Manitoba, but I'm sure there are quite a few Corvettes that run around that area, and they have all Fiberglass body's.
Yes, All stock Grand Am Hoods are made of Steel. |

The OEM Ram air hoods are made of a composite material iirc.

Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
I don't know alot of people who drive corvettes in -35 degree weather in 2ft of snow. LOL!
In regards to the fiberglass hood I have heard mixed reactions. Yes as long as they are built properly, but how will you know? wait till winter and see if it cracks. Can u tell by looking at it? I was told that under -15 TO -20 that fiberglass won't stand a chance. i guess I should hold on to the stock hood, which I was hoping to sell for a few bucks Rob, Thanx for the info on Menkes. When r u going? In the spring? car or truck? Big enough for a hood? The CDN $ is low now. Not to sure which is a better deal. $550 local or ebay $360 - hood + $106 Shipping to US + TAX at the border + Gas to and from ND. Wht do u think? It seems not too much savings and more hassle |

Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
To touch on both questions, Any material other than steel can be come more brittle in sub -15'C weather. Fibreglass, Carbon fibre and composite materials are winter safe, but can shatter if they are struck hard. If it is just a hood, NP.
As long as people dont go running up onto it when it is cold out, or anytime period, it will be safe. As to the trip to the states. I will most likely be going in late april, just before I will be going on my other trip in may. I will be taking my new 05 GASE, so a hood might ban issue to haul back. If you plan to import item back yourself, I would suggest that allyou need is extra cash and be sure to have the paperwork on the items. Depending on the type of item, where it was made and how much the item is worth, depends on the type of taxes and the amount. For auto parts that are made in the USA, you will have GST and possibly PST but probably no duties. Driving to Emerson is about 50 mins and Neche where menkes is located is about another 20 mins west. If you plan to just go down for a pickup, be sure to mention it when you enter the states. Makes things very quick. On the way back you will have to pull over anf pay the taxes. I will be sure to post up in the spring before I go. hope this helps

Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
The best way is to go through Gretna. They are very, very slack there, and if you are brining back a lot of things, they usally don't want to do the paper work :)
Gretna is right on the outskirts of Niche. I believe you have to go through Altona to get to it |

Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
I can use my dad's van w/ a utility trailer, so if I go the ebay route w/ the hood I can also bring stuff back for you other guys also if you want, or we can all go together it seats 5.
When do u need a passport 4 the states via land? |

Re: R U Looking 4 a Ram Air Hood
He is asking $600 now 4 a hood. He only has 3 left....i guess it is b/c of the falling CDN dollar.
I spoke to him: His Name is Jarred. He said he would like a deposit for as much as possible to hold it. Paint is a xtra $150. 479-3768 or (h) 1-204-746-4230 |
