The two main fact that I see here is, that if you really value your car and want to avoid loosing it then you will do whatever you can to keep it. I was broken into, for the purpose of stealing the car itself. Nothing was taken from the car. My car had a theft attempt that was a failure, this means I still have my car and since I had an immobilizer with a deductable of 200 or less the fee was waived. This is beneficial because not only did the immobilizer stop the theif from taking my car but it also saved me from paying my deductable on the repairs. Instead of taking 1-2 weeks for the investigation this attempt will only take 3-5 days.
You do save on your insurance every year, but you also add one more hurdle for the theives of today to get over. Obviously they arent that smart as mine couldn't read the sticker on the window. But I have put so much time and effort into my car I want to keep it as long as can. If I have to install a tracker or shave the door handles (cool mod) for a little more security then so be it...
But The immibilizer can mean the diffrence between having your car broken into and loosing it completly. The whole hastle of waiting for the car to be estimated and repaired is worth it, because I can still say that I am the only one who has driven, MY CAR!
Its worth it...

Here's a little tid bit to add... I went and inspected my car today and foundout that they did dust for prints, not sure yet if the police have matched but next week I might inquire. Normally they don't do this but I guess when I phoned the adjuster, the compound, and the inspector they decided that it might be a good thing to do.
Thumbs down eih ... I will try harder next time 8-P

I still highly recommend the Club... a cheap and highly effective visual deterrant. Pick one up at your local automobile store today!

Just a little update, tomorrow I goto checkout my car fixed up and make sure everything was done right. I also have been able to find some possible evidence to who made the theft attempt. I can't reveal anything right now because I was informed that a investigation would be conducted due to the new evidence. Immobilizer and a club would be recommended to anyone here, cause there have been a huge increase in thefts and attempts made. Dont give a theif a easy ticket to a nice set of wheels.
Lock your wheels down!

Went today to get the rest of the damage checked and I should have my car by early next week. I am pleased that everything went well, but sure hope this never happens again. I might even add a mod like Tracking module in the car as well as a very loud alarm system with a notification tag.
(mutters) a good pair of brass knuckles might do as well.

I just got my car back from Winter's Auto Body yesterday after round 2 of repairs to take care of the stuff that was missed the first time with Midway Chrysler. I must say that the quality of work, customer service, etc was phenominal! I would HIGHLY recommend everyone to go to Winter's for any kind of repair or paint work.

I can vouch for Winter's as well. My brother had his front bumper repainted after a close encounter with some drunks. The paint match was perfect. I plan on getting my car repainted there.

Well I just got my car back today and she's looking good. After 2 weeks of driving a rental, I'm glad to be back ina familiar seat. I am thinking of getting a full 2 way alarms system for that extra peice of mind. When spring comes I will be doing a complete once over around the dash to make sure everything was taken care of.
For everyone else, do what you can to avoid your car from becomming a target. Get a Immobilizer and club. let's get these theives backto stealing neons instead. lol

Well after acquiring a monthly parking spot NEAR THE MARYLAND HOTEL for school, I have now been forced into looking at the immobilizer (along with pressure from MPI, my family, and all of my friends, lol).
Next week they shall slap on an immobilizer for $220. It will pay off in 5 years apparantly, but I won't even have the car that long to get it fully paid off. I guess the real savings comes in when somebody steals your car, and MPI only gives you enough money back for your lost Grand Am to buy a USED SUNFIRE.
Now I'll have a club, an immobilizer, and a Viper alarm with trunk and hood opening sensors, shock sensors, and door handle sensors with ignition defeat. Let's see if those dirty son's of bitches can take the car now. I even got rid of my subwoofer (which ended up getting stolen from my brother's integra in the end anyways) and I have a stock deck so there is nothing worth stealing.

Exactly, I got a club, immobilizer and alarms system is a strong maybe.
but the main thing is make you car look like it will be more of a hastle than it would be worth so the theives can move on a steal a neon or caravan.
Fort Grand am!

+1 for immobilizer as of today. They had to keep the car for an extra hour because they couldn't figure out what was going on with the angel eyes/ footwell lighting tubes/ headlight LED wirings.

My aunts car was found within 30 minutes of the theft. She had a car with onstar. Arrested the guy too. Sux to be him. I guess the lesson of the story is not to try to steal newer cars. LOL

Keep your eyes open for this guy...
suspect who I have seen break into a vehicle, and who was described to be in the area, when my car was broken into.

Hey there I'm new to this site, I just purchased my Grand Am 3 weeks ago and on Friday I went for a bite to eat at Hooters and my car got jacked... Police arrested the 2 guys driving it however there is some rear end damage. I dont know how much hopefully not much and at least i work at a repair shop so i know the work will be done good. If I get it back i will def be getting an immobilizer and alarm! Not sold on the club, seen to many ppl quickly hack through the steering wheel and take it off.
